Foreign Policy Focus

Foreign Policy Focus is a podcast hosted by me, Kyle! It covers current events overseas and how those events affect you at home. While US military operations in the Middle East seem like they are on the other side of the world, they have real impacts on the everyday lives of Americans. Wars are the most costly of all US government actions and politicians use them to strip away rights of Americans. Knowing what your government is doing around the globe will give you insight into what they are doing at home.

On FPF #241, I discuss the US role in continuing the Syrian Civil War. David Ignatius of the Washington Post reports that a Trump official said the US policy is to draw Syria and Russia into a quagmire in Idlib. Ignatius argues for the US to do more to assist the rebels. I explain the results of the US arming the Sunni resistance to Assad under Obama and why the policy will fail again.

On FPF #240, I break down false and misleading information on Russiagate and North Korea. I discuss an article by Gareth Porter that debunks the claim that Russia hacked 21 state voter registration sites. Recent reporting on North Korea suggested that Donald Trump canceled a meeting with North Korea after reading a "belligerent" letter from Kim Jong Un. I review an article by Justin Raimondo that argues the truth is nuanced and the Trump/Un relationship is as bad as it may seem.

On FPF #239, I discuss how Turkey is a loser in the Syrian Civil War. I break down an article by Joost Hilterman on Turkey's role in the Syrian Civil War. Turkey's plan to back Sunni resistance to Assad failed as it looks like Assad will retain power in Syria. The US has backed and armed the Syrian Kurdish YPG, a group Turkey identifies as terrorists.

I update Trump calling off Pompeo's visit for North Korea and Trump's push for military intervention in Venezuela.

Scott Horton returns to FPF to discuss the first year of Trump's policy for the Afghan War. Scott explains how the drug war in Afghanistan has been a failure. He looks at the US goal of securing the capital Kabul and how the additional US troops have been unable to curb violence in the city. Scott gives his analysis of the recent talks between the US and Afghanistan.

Scott argues that the US efforts in the Afghan War are futile and we should just come home.

On FPF #233, I discuss Trump signing the 2019 John McCain National Defense Authorization Act. The overly costly and hawkish Pentagon spending bill is a perfect reflection of John McCain's horrific foreign policy record. I explain how parts of the bill will move the US towards more war.

I also update the Syrian Civil War and recent US reports on the strength of ISIS.

On FPF #229, I look at the difference between the US media portrayal of the Korean peace process and what is actually happening in the region. The US media has focused on stories that indicate North Korea and Trump are ruining the peace process. However, North and South Korea military leaders are meeting to discuss reducing conventional weapons near the DMZ. Japan is removing anti-missile systems citing a reduction in the threat from North Korea.

On FPF #228, I discuss the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act. Congress recently passed the 2019 NDAA, authorizing $716 billion in defense spending. On FPF #227, I discuss Trump's foreign policy. It appears Trump is using the same plan with Iran that he believes brought North Korea to agree to denuclearize. I explain how Trump misunderstands how the peace process developed in North Korea and why a similar US policy in Iran will have far different results.

I break down recent talks between the US and the Taliban and how Pakistan's new prime minister may impact the Afghan War.

Will Porter returns to FPF to discuss Donald Trump and foreign policy. Inflicted with Trump derangement syndrome, the mainstream media is writing headings suggesting the soccer ball Putin gave Trump had a device inside of it. The dishonesty of the headlines pushes America's policy away from peace with Russia.

Kyle and Will break down the proposed 2019 NDAA. The NDAA has several new mandates that impact Turkey, Yemen, and Syria.

Will Porter is a freelance journalist who covers US foreign policy and Mideast affairs. Will's work can be found at AntiWar.com, ConsortiumNews.com, and the Libertarian Institute.

Assange has been targeted for the important information his organizations, Wikileaks, has released to the public and his sympathy for the Catalan independence movement. I explain the importance of Assange's work.

I also discuss an article written by a US Veteran. The vet explains how he signed up in the US Army to be a hero and, in his role as a US soldier, became a villain.

On FPF #223, Brian Saady returns to the show to discuss the roots of the immigration crisis. In the US, the focus of the immigration issue is focused on what the should happen when people reach the US Southern border. However, US policy in Central America has caused many people to seek refuge in the US. Brian explains how immigration crisis has its roots in US intervention in Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala.

On FPF #221, I discuss potential peace talks between the US and the Taliban. On FPF #220, I break down a Jake Tapper interview of Rand Paul. Tapper presents the establishment position on NATO, Russian Aggression, and Russiagate. Senator Paul pushes back on Tapper's hawkish position. I explain where why NATO is not essential to security, that Russia is not an expansionist power, and the Mueller investigation still lacks evidence to prove Russia changed the outcome of the 2016 election.

On FPF#219, I discuss how Americans apathy towards our foreign policy leads to unnecessary deaths. America's longest war has tried the same failed policies over and over with only death and destruction as a result. However, Americans continue to elect leaders and representatives who carry on with the same failed policies.

On FPF #218, I refute Max Boot's article title Trump wants to Finiadize the United States. In the articles, Boot scrutinizes Trump for his antagonism towards traditional American alliances and Trump's desire to get along with Russia. Boot romanticizes about the usefulness of NATO and he portrays Russia as a world evil. I debunk the usefulness of NATO and explain Russia is no threat to the world.

Jul 9, 2018

On FPF #217, I discuss peace talks taking place. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited North Korea for talks on North Korean denuclearization. The North Korean Foreign Minister said the talks were regrettable, while Pompeo called the talks productive. The mainstream media continues to complain that Trump will sell out Americans at his upcoming summit with Putin. Ethiopia and Eritrea are engaging in peace talks to normalize relations between the two African nations. I also update Syria, Afghanistan, and Trump's hostility towards Venezuela.
